Quran and Science Festival 2
Assalamualaikum!
We are glad to have had many enthusiastic participants in our Zippity Zest workshop!
Here are some snippets for you to recall what you did in Zippity Zest.
Remember the many verses in the Quran that mentioned Paradise and fruits together?
Some of the verses are:
Chapter Az-Zukhruf Ayah 72-73 Chapter Ya Seen Ayah 55-57 Chapter Sad Ayah 49-51 Chapter Ad-Dhukhan Ayah 51 – 55 Chapter At-Tur Ayah 17 – 22 Chapter Al-Waqi’ah Ayah 10 – 21
These are the words which we brainstormed together as to why fruits are an inviting factor to Paradise! <3

Now, let’s watch this video on how to set up a simple circuit.
In a circuit, there are many “soldiers” in the wires waiting to be “activated”. These “soldiers” are called “free moving electrons”. The battery in a circuit acts like a “Camp HQ” for these “soldiers” to refuel. Once the “soldiers” are refueled, they will be energised and moved through the circuit.
What happens if the circuit has an open gap?
If the circuit has a gap, it is considered as an open circuit. “Soldiers” can only “walk” through if there is a “path” for them to walk on. For circuits to work, the circuit has to be closed i.e. with no gaps.
Are they only a few soldiers at work?
No, there are MANY “soldiers” waiting to move. Imagine an extremely crowded bus with only one exit point and one entering point. The “soldiers” have to leave and enter the bus in only one direction.
Imagine having lemons as your batteries. How do you make it work? What do you need? Watch this video as 6-year-old Umar helps you figure it out. 😉
*ERROR – Starts: 1:44 – 2:00 -*
The correct explanation should be: “The long leg of the LED is ‘+’ and the short leg of the LED is ‘-‘”
Remember:
Opposites Attract Likewise, positive terminal needs to join with a negative terminal
Copper strips are positive terminal
This method of making lemon battery is called electrolysis.
Electrolysis is when chemical reactions takes place (in this case, the lemon) when an electrical current passes through it.
Now that you have watched both, you may now see how the experiment is carried out.
Allah is Ar-Raaziq. SubhanaAllah!
He takes it upon Himself to provide sustenance to all of His creatures without exception. He also takes it upon Himself to grant, with His immense mercy and grace, His righteous servants, special provision, namely, blessings of faith and lawful earnings. – The Most Excellent Names of Allah, Abu Ahmed Farid
Try to think of three scenarios when a lemon battery will be useful
There are so many things you can continue to do with the kit you brought
There are so many things you can continue to do with the kit you brought back home.
Here is the list of experiments you can do in the comfort of your own home.
Just a friendly reminder before you begin your experiment!

Experiment 1
Lemon is a citrus fruit.
What is a citrus fruit?
What type of taste do all citrus fruits have in common?
List three of your favourite citrus fruits.
Repeat the experiment you did but this time replace the lemon with the citrus fruits that you had listed earlier.
Record your observations in a table.
Conclude your experiment based on your observations.
What do you think is present in citrus fruits that allow it to act as a battery?
Did you know?
In a Sahih, it is narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “The example of the believer who reads the Quran is the example of the Utrujj (Citron): its taste is delicious and its scent is plesant.”
There are four parts to a citrus fruit. What are they?
Find out the benefits of each of the four parts and record your findings.
Experiment 2
List three of your favourite non-citrus fruits.
Again, repeat the experiment you did but this time replace the lemon with the non-citrus fruits that you had listed earlier.
Record your observations in a table.
Conclude your experiment based on your observations.
Experiment 3
List three vegetables which you might think will work like the lemon.
With the three vegetables, repeat the experiments.
Record your observations in a table.
Conclude your experiment based on your observations.
We hoped you enjoyed the extra activities prepared for you!
Every food digested in our body has energy. It is essential to eat the right food to provide the right level of energy our body eats.
“And it is He who sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby the growth of all things. We produce from it greenery from which We produce grains arranged in layers. And from the palm trees – of its emerging fruit are clusters hanging low. And [We produce] gardens of grapevines and olives and pomegranates, similar yet varied. Look at [each of] its fruit when it yields and [at] its ripening. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.” Quran (6:99)
At the same time, one should not fill the stomach beyond its capacity. When one eats more than the body can handle, the food eaten will not be digested properly. This will lead to discomfort and may weaken the strength of one’s bodily function.
As narrated by Imam Ahmad, the Prophet ﷺ said: “The son of Adam never fills a vessel worse than his stomach. The son of Adam onlu needs a few bites that would sustain him, but if he insists, one third should be reserved for food, another third for his drink and the last third for his breathing.”
